Alexander the Great
I can finally update all of you now that the war is finally over! A question i had received earlier before i went off too war was how is alexander the great.. great? I had to have time to think about this, but i finally cam up with a significant answer. One reason why Alexander is and was considered so great was that he was ruler of Macedonia at 20 years old, after his father Philip died. This is a very young age to rule a empire, so that is one impressive thing. Also he was tutored by the one and only Aristotle. An interesting thing that happened with Alexander is that he broke the Gordian Knot. This is a fabled knot tied by the father of the legendary King Midas. People were told that whoever untied the knot would be the ruler of Asia. Alexander was also the conqueror of the persian empire and considered one of the greatest military leaders because of his conquering of un-known land.
Another question I have not yet answered is a question about how the cultures Alexander took on aided his empire, or hurt it. Personally I think all of the cultures coming together helped his empire by giving him the choice to make his empire a happy mixture of all the cultures that best fit his empire's greatest needs. Before his death he appointed a mixture of Persians and Greeks to take charge of his empire's cultural views and made sure they knew what he wanted for his empire before his death.
Another great leader in history is Abraham Lincoln. He is like Alexander in many ways. One way i think they are both similar is their emotional state of mind. Abraham Lincoln suffered from depression and sadness during his presidency and i feel that Alexander quite possibly could have as well over grieving the loss of his father. Another way I believe they are similar is that they both had some military background of some kind. Alexander, as i have mentioned before was known as one of the greatest military involved people of that time. Abraham was not quite as known on military level.. but was still involved in some aspects such as being in the Regiment of Illinois Militia. One more way they are similar is that they were of course both famous leaders, but also wanted to lead their people in what they thought was best. Abraham wanted to free slaves.. which is what he felt was in the best interest of his people. Alexander wanted to mix the cultures in a way that was best for his people. So in the end, they both had their people in mind in the decisions they had to make.

It is really interesting how you were able to connect the sadness both Alexander the Great and Abraham Lincoln had to feel while they were in office or ruling an empire. I honestly had never even thought of connecting those, and I did Abraham Lincoln also. That is very eye opening.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you compared Abraham and Alexander. I never would have thought that Alexander had his people end mine by spreading the culture.
