Answer 1.Alexander the Great was considered to be the best ruler of his time, because of his military conquest. These conquest allowed him to take over 3,000 miles of land, and he did all of this in only 13 years. His 1st attack was at Thessaly to restore the Macedonian rule. He defeated the Thracians, up through the Danube River, and on his way he defeated the Illyrians. Alexander ravaged Thebes, Defeated a Persian army and defeated Tyre. Every time Alexander defeated a town or city, he gained resources, soldiers, and their ideas. Alexander was so great because he never lost a battle, he always had faith in his army, and took the Greek ideas and spread them throughout his empire.
Answer 2.Alexander aided the blending of the cultures, of Egypt, Perisa, India, and Greece, which became known as the Hellenistic culture. The Hellenistic scholars preserved Greek and Egyptian sciences including astronomy, mathematics, and physics. Eratosthenes and Aristarchus were astronomers that proved many things about the planets and stars that we still learn about today. Eratosthenes calculated earth’s size and Aristarchus proved that the planets revolved around the sun. If it wasn’t for Alexander these astronomers would’ve not come together to blend their ideas and spread them throughout the empire. There common language and ruler helped them communicate these ideas.
Answer 3.Alexander and Abraham Lincoln are very alike. They both led wars, both weren’t terrible to their enemies, and they both died younger than they should have. They also cared about the people that they were fighting with. Abraham was fighting for slave’s freedom, and Alexander was fighting for land. Even though they fought for different reasons, they were alike by their hope and dignity that they could accomplish something great.

I learned about his battles in your first response, and I learned about the math and sciences studied in Macedonia. I didn't know that they measured the size of the earth back then. I also compared Abraham Lincoln and Alexander, great connection. You compared Lincoln and Alexander better than I did.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you gave specific details about how much land he conquered, but you should talk more about what being a soldier was like.
